Company Overview

Our client is a dynamic and entrepreneurial real estate investment and development firm experiencing rapid growth. With an expanding portfolio of multifamily and mixed-use properties, our client is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Controller to support their evolving financial operations. This is a unique opportunity to join a collaborative leadership team and play a key role in building a best-in-class finance and accounting function.

This role has the opportunity to eventually become their CFO.

Position Summary

The Controller will be a key contributor to the organization’s financial management, reporting, and internal controls. This individual will support ownership and partner closely with the management team on strategic planning and operational execution. As the firm continues to scale, the Controller will have the opportunity to grow within the role and assume greater responsibility, including building out and leading an internal accounting team.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Operations & Team Building

• Build and lead the accounting team including Bookkeepers, Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable personnel
• Oversee day-to-day accounting operations and ensure compliance with internal policies and external regulations
• Maintain and improve accounting and payroll systems and workflows

Construction & Property Management Accounting

• Manage all invoice processing and payment workflows for ongoing construction and property management activities
• Collaborate with the Head of Construction to develop project budgets and monitor variances
• Lead month-end and quarter-end closing processes
• Prepare timely and accurate financial statements in accordance with GAAP
• Coordinate annual tax filings and audits with external accounting firms

Budgeting, Forecasting & Cash Management

• Lead annual budgeting and reforecasting for the real estate portfolio
• Maintain operating models for all holdings
• Monitor cash positions and prepare forward-looking cash flow plans

Investor Reporting & Analysis

• Assist in preparing investor reports and performance tracking
• Work closely with Fund Administrator and Investor Relations Manager
• Generate monthly management reports and executive-level financial analysis

Strategic Insight & Process Improvement

• Enhance the use of dashboards, KPIs, and analytics to measure business performance and drive strategic decisions
• Recommend and implement improvements to financial processes and systems

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting/Finance is required;
  Master’s degree a plus
• CPA is highly preferred
• 3 (Ideally 5 +) or more years of progressive accounting experience, preferably with experience in public accounting
• Experience with real estate, construction, or fund management is highly desirable but not required
• Proficient in accounting systems and Microsoft Excel (financial modeling and data analysis)
• Strong organizational and leadership skills with a proactive and solution-oriented mindset
