Key Responsibilities
- Set up and operate CNC and/or manual machines according to setup sheets and part drawings.
- Perform first-piece, in-process, and final inspections using precision measuring tools (micrometers, calipers, height gauges, bore gauges, CMM, etc.).
- Interpret blueprints, GD&T, and engineering specifications to verify part conformance.
- Record inspection results and maintain documentation for traceability.
- Help reduce rework and scrap caused in the machine shop by catching machining defects and quality issues at the setup operation.
- Work closely with programmers and engineers to resolve dimensional or tolerance problems.
- Maintain equipment, gauges, and tools in proper working condition.
- Support continuous improvement, 5S, and lean manufacturing initiatives.
- Train or mentor other machinists in quality and inspection best practices.
- Ensure adherence to AS9100 and internal quality procedures.
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical training preferred.
- 3-5 years of experience in precision machining and inspection.
- Strong understanding of GD&T and blueprint reading.
- Proficient in use of inspection tools and equipment.
- Experience with CMM or digital inspection systems a plus.
- Ability to work independently, manage priorities, and meet production deadlines.
- Commitment to quality, accuracy, and continuous improvement.
- Ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 50 lbs.
- Frequent use of hands, precision tools, and measuring equipment.
- Work performed in a manufacturing environment with moderate noise levels.
