CNC Lathe Machinist

This role focuses on operating and setting up CNC lathes within a clean, climate-controlled machine shop that utilizes a wide range of advanced equipment. You will perform complete setups, tool changes, and minor program edits to produce high-quality parts to tight tolerances, while ensuring consistent productivity on multiple CNC machines throughout the facility.

Responsibilities

  • Perform complete setups on CNC lathes, including preparing fixtures, tools, and work pieces according to job specifications.
  • Operate and run CNC machinery safely and efficiently to meet production schedules and quality standards.
  • Perform all tool changeovers and adjustments to maintain optimal cutting conditions and part quality.
  • Make minor edits and adjustments to CNC programs, including G-code changes, to correct issues and optimize performance.
  • Run parts and measure features to close and exact tolerances using appropriate measuring tools.
  • Make precise quality measurements, check dimensions, and analyze data to verify that parts meet specifications.
  • Adjust offsets, tooling, and process parameters based on measurement results to maintain dimensional accuracy.
  • Monitor CNC machines during operation to ensure consistent productivity and promptly address issues such as tool wear or dimensional drift.
  • Collaborate with other machinists and team members to support smooth workflow and continuous improvement within the machine shop.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in line with shop standards and procedures.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience working with Citizen M32 Y Axis Swiss Type Lathes and various Mori Seiki CNC lathes (SL2500Y, ZT2500Y, NLX
    2500Y).
  • Familiarity with Okuma LU400M CNC lathes and other CNC turning equipment.
  • Experience with horizontal machining centers such as Kitamura Mycenter-HX500I and Mori Seiki SH-400 with full 4th axis capability.
  • Background using manual lathes including Clausing, Ganesh, Lagun, South Bend, and Weisser turret lathes.
  • Experience with vertical knee mills such as Bridgeport Series 1 and Lagun vertical knee mills.
  • Exposure to vertical machining centers including multiple Kitamura Mycenter models, Makino FNC
    40, Milltronics RH20, and Mori Seiki SV-500.
  • Familiarity with support equipment such as sand blasting units, grinders, honing machines, laser engraving machines, drill presses, hydraulic presses, band saws, and MIG welding machines.
  • Ability to adapt to working on different machines and processes within a highly equipped machine shop.

Work Environment

The machine shop is climate controlled, very clean, quiet, extremely organized, and air conditioned, providing a comfortable and professional setting. You will work on either first or second shift, with first shift running Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and second shift running Monday through Thursday from 3:30 p.m. to 1:45 a.m. There are typically 4–5 hours of overtime available each week.

This opening focuses on a Mori Seiki twin spindle, two turret lathe, and you will work as part of a team of approximately 15–17 machinists on first shift. The shop includes extensive CNC turning capability (Citizen M32 Y Axis Swiss Type Lathe; multiple Mori Seiki CNC lathes including SL2500Y, ZT2500Y, NLX
2500Y; Okuma LU400M), horizontal machining centers (Kitamura Mycenter-HX500I with full 4th axis, Mori Seiki SH-400 with full 4th axis), manual lathes, vertical knee mills (Bridgeport Series 1, and vertical machining centers (several Kitamura My center models with full 4th axis, Makino FNC
