Job Title:
Skilled Mechanical Assembler

Shift: 1st Shift 6AM-4:30PM (Monday-Thursday) overtime would start at 5AM.

Pay: $21/hour. After 1 year of employment, pay will bump to $28.17/hour

Job Description

This role involves full-cycle assembly and testing of stainless steel laboratory equipment, ranging from small to large-scale products. You will use hand tools, power tools, and measuring tools to assemble mechanical and electrical components according to blueprints, wiring schematics, and work instructions. The position requires strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and the ability to independently assemble products that meet quality and performance expectations.

Responsibilities
  • Assemble stainless steel laboratory equipment and products from start to finish, including full-cycle assembly and testing.
  • Use hand tools, power tools, and measuring tools such as tape measures to perform mechanical and electrical assembly tasks.
  • Read, interpret, and follow engineering drawings, blueprints, wiring schematics, bills of materials, and associated work instructions on a daily basis.
  • Apply basic mechanical and electrical knowledge to assemble products that meet defined quality and performance standards.
  • Troubleshoot and repair assembly issues with some assistance, ensuring equipment functions correctly and safely.
  • Select appropriate tools, materials, and equipment for non-repetitive assembly operations, exercising sound judgment in the process.
Essential Skills
  • Minimum of 2 years of recent assembly background or related experience (not on an assembly line).
  • Proven ability to read and understand engineering drawings, blueprints, wiring schematics, bills of materials, and work instructions.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of mechanical and electrical product assembly, including small to large-scale equipment or large appliances.
  • Mechanical aptitude and the ability to apply basic mechanical and electrical understanding in daily work.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair assembly problems with some guidance.
  • Consistent work history with long tenure and minimal gaps in employment.
  • Comfort using hand tools, power tools, and general production equipment.
  • Ability to read and use a tape measure accurately.
Additional

Skills & Qualifications
  • Previous industrial assembly experience, particularly in a sheet metal or production environment.
  • Experience assembling stainless steel equipment or laboratory products.
  • Experience with both mechanical and electrical assembly of equipment or large appliances.
  • Familiarity with production environments and general labor tasks.
  • Comfort working in a large, non-temperature-controlled facility.
  • Experience working in a union environment is a plus.

Work Environment

This position is based in a large, 160,000 sq. ft. sheet metal production facility that is not temperature controlled. The work area is very clean and well-maintained, with a strong focus on safety. You will work in a department of about 10 people, fostering a close-knit, team-oriented atmosphere. The facility operates on a first-shift schedule, Monday through Thursday from 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with overtime starting as early as 5:00 a.m. when needed, providing up to approximately 5 hours of overtime per week.

This is a union facility with structured policies and procedures. You will regularly use hand tools, power tools, and measuring tools such as tape measures, and work with stainless steel and sheet metal components. The dress code includes steel-toed boots, jeans, and a t-shirt, reflecting a practical and safety-focused production environment.
