MaTovu is an inclusive Jewish space in St. Louis City that fosters connection by enriching our community’s spiritual, cultural, and social life. MaTovu opened its doors in 2018 and has welcomed over 7,500 participants across 325 programs. In 2024, MaTovu launched a cooperative structure of Builders (members), aiming to build a deeper, more supportive community by centering community-driven decision‑making and expanding how MaTovu uses its space and crafts programming.

MaTovu is looking to hire a full‑time Managing Director to support our operations, build out our cooperative structure, and work alongside MaTovu’s growing community to increase our impact.
This executive‑level position will be the first at MaTovu, and the key qualifications are to bring vision, leadership, organization, and energy to our creative and innovative community organization. This is a non‑traditional organization and structure, and requires a leader able to understand and work with our MaTovu community as our cooperative leadership model evolves. We seek a leader to support and sustain MaTovu’s mission and cooperative model, who is committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion within and outside the Jewish community, seeks to create equitable and sustainable organizational structures and practices, and is excited to grow and change with the organization.
This position is responsible for overseeing the organization’s administration, programs, and strategy, working in close partnership with our committee structure, Builders, and Board of Directors. The Managing Director role will emphasize management and support of committees, volunteers, the Board of Directors, and potential part‑time staff members. The candidate should demonstrate strategic thinking, the ability to balance short‑term needs with long‑term planning, and deep thoughtfulness about stakeholder engagement.
They will have excellent communication skills and be able to represent our organization to diverse audiences.
We outline a number of key areas below that we want the Managing Director to help organize, recognizing that accomplishing these tasks may require supplementing skills (and time) with part‑time staff, contractors, and volunteer efforts. Salary and BenefitsSalary for MaTovu’s Managing Director is $70,000 per year. This is a full‑time position at 40 hours/week. Benefits include a stipend to be determined on personal healthcare needs; paid time off; and flexible hours. This role will require a mix of daytime, evening, and weekend, and will require working on some Jewish holidays to support MaTovu’s programming. The position reports directly to the Board of Directors and is based out of MaTovu’s building in South City, St.
Louis (with hybrid flexibility).
