Hospice Volunteer & Bereavement Coordinator

St. Louis, MO

Full-Time | Daytime Schedule

Phoenix Home Care & Hospice is seeking a Hospice Volunteer & Bereavement Coordinator to support two essential components of our hospice program: volunteer services and bereavement support. This is a paid, professional role responsible for coordinating, training, and supporting hospice volunteers while also guiding bereavement services for patients’ families and caregivers.

In this role, you will work closely with the interdisciplinary hospice team to ensure volunteers are well‑prepared, supported, and meaningfully engaged, while also helping families navigate grief with compassion, structure, and care.

What You’ll Do Volunteer Program Coordination
  • Develop and manage volunteer orientation and training programs
  • Recruit, onboard, schedule, and support hospice volunteers
  • Assign volunteers to appropriate services and review plans of care as needed
  • Maintain accurate volunteer personnel files and documentation
  • Conduct supervisory visits and volunteer performance evaluations
  • Track and report monthly volunteer statistics
  • Ensure timesheets and visit documentation are completed and submitted timely
Bereavement Support Coordination
  • Coordinate bereavement services for families following a patient’s passing
  • Provide compassionate outreach, education, and grief resources to families
  • Maintain bereavement documentation and follow‑up schedules
  • Collaborate with the hospice interdisciplinary team to ensure continuity of support
  • Participate in meetings, care conferences, and quality activities as requested
Additional Responsibilities
  • Foster consistent, open communication with volunteers and hospice staff
  • Review visit notes to ensure services align with plans of care
  • Participate in ongoing professional development through education and training
What We’re Looking For
  • Experience in hospice, healthcare, bereavement, or volunteer coordination preferred but not required
  • Strong computer and technology skills including documentation, email, and reporting
  • Detail oriented with strong organizational and multitasking abilities
  • Strong communication, critical thinking, and problem‑solving skills
  • Reliable, compassionate, and professional with a strong work ethic
