Job Description
STEP-DOWN UNIT - ACUTE CARE HOSPITAL

SCHEDULE

- Shift: Nights
- Guaranteed hours: 36 hours/week (3 × 12-hr shifts)
- Weekend requirement: 2 shifts every other weekend

ASSIGNMENT DETAILS
- Unit census: ~25 patients (29 beds)
- Orientation: 24 hours

REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum 2 years RN experience
- Must have been at bedside within last 6 months
- Trauma Level II experience: required
- Previous charge experience: preferred
- Required

Certifications:

ACLS, BLS (BCLS), NIH/NIHSS
- Clinical skills:
- Vasoactive drip titration (Levophed, Nicardipine, etc.)
- Sedation medication and insulin drips
- Tracheostomy/vent management and troubleshooting alarms
- Arterial line management, chest tube care
- Cardiac arrhythmia recognition/management, external pacemakers
- Basic ventilator familiarity

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide high-quality nursing care for patients in a step-down unit from ICU
- Monitor patient vital signs and manage complex medication drips
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary team including respiratory therapy and social services
- Administer medications and treatments as prescribed
- Assess patient conditions and respond to changes in status

- Fit testing:
Facial hair must allow proper fit test (may be required to shave)
