The Nurse Extern will commit to a full-time (36 hour) schedule for 9 weeks (dates indicated above). Hours vary and may include day and night shifts, weekends and holidays during the Externship. You will be expected to work the shifts that your preceptors(s) are scheduled.
Orientation on Day 1 (5/18/2026) is mandatory.
- Must be enrolled in an accredited nursing program.
- Graduation date of Fall 2026, Spring 2027, Summer 2027
- Cumulative GPA of 3.0
- Valid CPR/BLS Certification throughout program participation dates
- Completion of application packet within deadline requirements (including a Statement of Purpose and Resume)
- Additional details will be provided after Externship application is submitted.

Provides direct patient care under the direct supervision of a RN. Assists with developing, implementing, and evaluating plan of care.
Responsibilities- Utilizes nursing process to plan, direct and provide safe nursing care working under the supervision of assigned mentor.
- Develops a collaborative plan of care based on patient assessment.
- Interprets data and implements appropriate interventions along side a nurse preceptor.
- Follows specific standards of care and policies relative to area assigned. Identifies patient and family education needs and works with mentor to coordinate appropriate educational resources.
- Participates in educational activities related to extern program including unit specific educational information.
- Performs Other Responsibilities as Assigned
