Job Details
• Short-term acute care hospital setting, Magnet-designated and Level I Trauma Center teaching hospital with 1,259 staffed beds,
• Behavioral Health unit serving adult and geriatric psychiatric patients (18+), including those with co-morbid medical conditions requiring a med-surg approach,
• Patient diagnoses include dementia, depression, Parkinson's Disease, bipolar disorder, anxiety, substance use/chemical dependency, and other psychiatric conditions,
• Locked inpatient psychiatric unit environment,
• Patient ratio of 1:6,
• Night shift schedule, 3x12-hour shifts (19:00-07:30),
• Every other weekend required,
• Floating required within the Behavioral Health service line and to all BH units; float patients may include older adults with medical co-morbidities and mobility issues,
• No on-call required,
• Block scheduling is not available,
• Charting via Epic (experience required),
• Navy scrubs required,
Job Requirements
• Active MO RN license or compact RN license from candidate's state of permanent residence (required at time of consideration),
• Current BLS and CPI certifications required,
• Minimum 1 year of RN experience required; both medical and psychiatric experience are required,
• Epic EMR experience required,
• Proficiency in medication administration (PO, rectal, IM, IV, SQ) required,
• Experience starting and maintaining IVs required,
• Experience with blood glucose monitoring and Foley catheter insertion/maintenance required,
• Experience in geriatric, inpatient, locked unit, and medical/psych settings required,
• Substance use/chemical dependency experience required,
• Med-surg experience within the past 3 years required,
• SSN and date of birth required for consideration,
• Two professional supervisory references from within the past 2 years required,
Additional Information
• Responsibilities include presence in the milieu, medication administration, IV starts, blood glucose monitoring, Foley catheter care, restraint application, and pre-op prep for ECT patients,
• May serve as charge nurse as needed; prior charge experience is preferred,
• Teaching hospital experience preferred,
• Candidates must reside more than 75 miles from the facility to be eligible; local candidates are not accepted,
• RTO is limited to no more than 7 days per 13-week contract; no RTO during the first week of the assignment,
• Prior permanent employees of any BJC facility must wait 1 year before returning as a traveler,
• Travelers may remain on assignment for up to 18 months, after which a 3-month break is required,
• Fit testing is required; candidates must have facial hair that allows for proper mask fit testing or will be expected to shave - no exceptions,
• First-time travelers are not automatically eligible but may be considered through a clinical interview screening process,
• Medical marijuana card holders are not eligible for this position,
• Candidates who obtained their RN degree outside of the U.S. and do not hold a MO or compact license should be aware of extended licensing timelines,
