Overview
Barnes-Jewish Hospital at Washington University Medical Center is the largest hospital in Missouri and is ranked as one of the nation s top hospitals by U.S. News & World Report. The Cardiac ICU (CICU) is a 15-bed unit that specializes in care for patients with cardiogenic shock, myocardial infarction, heart failure, arrhythmias, and cardiac arrest. The CICU team includes nurses, physicians, pharmacists, technicians, case managers, and social workers.
Nurse-to-patient ratios are typically 1:2 or 1:1 depending on acuity.
The role is a Cardiac ICU Team Lead/Charge Nurse
Responsibilities- Facilitate identification and resolution of gaps in care from hospitalization through discharge and into ambulatory care. Critically assess patient data to mitigate impending changes in condition; establish interprofessional consultations as appropriate.
- Lead development and implementation of complex plans of care with defined goals in collaboration with the interprofessional team, patient, family, or caregiver in accordance with established standards of nursing care.
- Actively utilize evidence-based practices, participate in journal clubs, support practice change, and disseminate new knowledge. Explore opportunities to advance nursing practice and participate in relevant community or organizational activities as appropriate.
- Analyze gaps in practice standards and provide feedback to peers to enhance safe patient care. Lead evaluation of patient and family experience to improve satisfaction and quality of care.
- Recognize this is a safety-sensitive position; maintain a constant state of alertness and perform duties in a safe manner.
