Job Details
• Inpatient Behavioral Health unit within a large acute care hospital (1,259 staffed beds), Magnet-designated and Level I Trauma Center teaching facility,
• Adult and geriatric psychiatric population (18+), including patients with co-morbid medical conditions requiring a med-surg approach,
• Diagnoses include depression, bipolar disorder, dementia, Parkinson's disease, anxiety, substance use disorders, and other psychiatric conditions,
• Locked inpatient unit setting with a 1:6 patient ratio,
• Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts per week (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM); option for 36 or 48 hours per week,
• Every other weekend required,
• Floating required within the Behavioral Health service line and to all BH units,
• No on-call required,
• Block scheduling is not available,
• Charting system:
Epic (experience required),
Job Requirements
• Active MO RN license or compact RN license from state of permanent residence required,
• Current BLS and CPI certifications required,
• Minimum 1 year of RN experience required; both medical and psychiatric nursing experience are required,
• Med/Surg experience within the past 3 years required,
• Epic EMR experience required,
• Proficiency in medication administration (PO, rectal, IM, IV, SQ), IV insertion and maintenance, blood glucose monitoring, and Foley catheter insertion and maintenance,
• Experience with geriatric, inpatient, locked unit, medical/psych, and substance use/chemical dependency treatment settings required,
• Candidates must reside more than 75 miles from the facility to be eligible,
• Valid SSN and date of birth required for consideration,
• Previous charge nurse experience preferred,
• Teaching hospital experience preferred,
Additional Information
• Responsibilities include IV starts, presence in the therapeutic milieu, restraint application, pre-op preparation for ECT patients, and serving as charge nurse as needed,
• When floating to other BH units, patients may include older adults with medical co-morbidities, mobility issues, and diagnoses such as dementia, Parkinson's disease, depression, bipolar disorder, and anxiety,
• Candidates must complete required onboarding modules prior to the start date,
• Fit testing is required; facial hair must allow for proper mask fit testing - no exceptions,
• No RTO permitted during the first week of the assignment; no more than 7 days of RTO per 13-week contract,
• Travelers may remain on assignment for up to 18 months, after which a 3-month break is required,
• Former permanent employees of this health system must wait 1 year before returning as a traveler,
• First-time travelers are eligible to apply and will be considered via clinical screening,
