Job Description

The Foundation for Barnes-Jewish Hospital has an opportunity for a Sr. Philanthropy Officer. This role will focus on advancing philanthropic priorities for Goldfarb School of Nursing; with primary emphasis on securing major gifts for scholarships, endowed faculty positions and capital projects. This role requires strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a preference for candidates who bring prior fundraising experience—ideally within higher education.

Hybrid position, with expectations to be onsite 3x per week.

Role Purpose

The Sr. Philanthropy Officer will support the fundraising efforts of the hospital Foundation primarily by holding and managing a portfolio of local and regional donors, with a focus on those currently, or capable of, giving ≥ $25,000 or more. They will assist in the growth and support of the planned giving strategies, while also working with Physician Chiefs, and Hospital Divisions, to identify new opportunities for fundraising and cultivate new donors.

Responsibilities
  • Manage a portfolio of major giving donors and prospects, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding major gift prospects and donors; includes solicitation of major gifts for capital, endowment, and programmatic gifts; hold a portfolio of regional donors with the expectation of growing our regional footprint in dollars raised and donors engaged.
  • Manage at least two hospital divisions or departments, working with the Chief or lead of that division and other staff, to cultivate new donors, help physicians shape their fundraising needs, and solicit donors based on those needs.
  • Collaborate with the events team to successfully orchestrate donor receptions to support campaign fundraising; attend evening and weekend Foundation events as needed to cultivate and steward key donors.
  • Ensure proper recording of all contracts with prospects and provide appropriate gift acknowledgement and stewardship of assigned donors; responsible for all donor communications, including written proposals and gift agreements.
  • Identify and solicit planned giving prospects, collaborating with leadership to complete complex estate gifts.
Preferred Qualifications

    Bachelor’s Degree
  • Experience:

    5-10 years in major gifts fundraising.
  • Licenses &

    Certifications:

    CFRE
