Location: St. Louis
School Nurse – LPN
A School Nurse can be either an RN or an LPN. The position pay depends on the licensure and experience of the applicant. Interviews will start in July.
Minimum Qualifications /Skills Required- Licensed Practical Nurse (L.P.N.)
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing and licensed to practice in the state of Missouri
- Prior work in public school, public health, or related fields preferred
- Ability to perform duties within the Scope and Standards of Professional School Nursing Practice
- Ability to practice primary, secondary, and tertiary health prevention and social marketing within the public health framework and focus
- Ability to initiate, monitor, and complete referrals related to individual health needs
- Performs position duties with minimal supervision
- Communicates effectively (written and verbal)
Hours in Duty Days Excluding Lunch: 7.5
Work Day: Monday - Friday
Contract Days Worked: 9.25 months
EssentialJob Duties
Position Goal: To support the educational success of each student by minimizing absences, creating and promoting a climate of health and well‑being for students, adults in the assigned school, the family system, and the larger community.
- Daily operation of the assigned health room, maintained in a clean, orderly, professional manner and stocked with all medical supplies.
- Provide age‑appropriate, culturally, and ethnically sensitive care.
- Coordinate care across settings and among caregivers.
- Refer, coordinate, and monitor physical and mental health‑related services.
- Provide outreach to children/families to access MOHealth
Net services. - Facilitate application to MOHealth
Net services. - Educate individuals and populations regarding healthy practices.
- Participate in developing and completing an annual health services work plan.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary team to maximize education.
- Prepare and forward reports as required.
- Maintain a safe, clean, organized working environment.
- Attend district and staff meetings and professional training as scheduled.
- Protect confidentiality of student health records in all formats.
- Provide supervision for UAPs in accordance with S‑BON Practice Standards.
- Maintain and protect electronic database for student health records.
- Consult/communicate with appropriate school personnel.
- Consult/communicate with supervisors as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned by Health Service Coordinator or Building Administrator.
- Demonstrate regular and predictable attendance that complies with district policies and rules.
- Demonstrate effective and positive interpersonal relationships with staff, students, and the community and the ability to work as a productive and solid member of the school district team.
- Must be able to collaborate with peers, possess a positive attitude, and be flexible with change.
Job Responsibilities
- Consult/communicate with appropriate community resource organizations.
- Other duties as assigned. This does not preclude the assignment of additional or supplemental duties. The district reserves the right to modify the assignment as needed to reflect such duties.
- Duties performed typically in district settings to include the cafeteria, gym, recreational areas and other assigned areas.
- Physical demands can include but are not limited to: exerting up to 40 lbs of force occasionally, up to 20 lbs of force frequently, and up to 10 lbs of force constantly to move objects including equipment such as audio‑visual.
- Frequent walking, standing, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, and other limited physical activities are required.
- Mental demands can include but are not limited to: comparing, copying, computing, compiling, analyzing, coordinating, and synthesizing.
- Frequent movement of students by wheelchairs and other mechanical devices may be required.
Minimum Qualifications /Skills Required
- Associate Degree in Nursing
- Current license to practice Registered Professional Nursing in Missouri
- Current certification in First Aid, CPR, and AED
- Minimum six months experience in pediatric, public health, adult, and mental health nursing.
