Overview
Barnes-Jewish Hospital at Washington University Medical Center is the largest hospital in Missouri and is ranked as one of the nation’s top hospitals by U.S. News & World Report. The Cardiac ICU (CICU) is a 15‑bed unit that specializes in care for patients with cardiogenic shock, myocardial infarction, heart failure, arrhythmias, and cardiac arrest. CICU nurses are trained to manage devices such as intra-aortic balloon pumps (IABP), Impella, and left ventricular assist devices (LVAD), and to work with critical care lines and interventions.
Nurse-to-patient ratios are typically 1:2 or 1:1, depending on acuity.
Cardiac ICU Registered Nurse responsible for direct patient care activities including assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation within the standards of nursing care. Provides patient- and family-centered care and collaborates with the interprofessional team to achieve outcomes.
Responsibilities- Promotes patient- and family-centered care in a healing environment. Educates patients and families on illness or injury management, post-treatment home care needs, and medication administration.
- Participates in activities that promote patient safety, quality, and regulatory compliance. Engages in professional development.
- Develops, implements, and documents individual plans of care with defined goals in collaboration with the patient, family or caregiver and interprofessional team; ensures effective communication of the plan across the continuum of care.
- Assesses and evaluates physical, psychosocial, emotional, cultural, and population-specific needs; respects patient preferences and barriers to involvement in care.

- Benefits eligible; two 12-hour shifts (7:00 pm–7:30 am); shift differentials for nights, weekends, and holidays; BSN differential
