Certified Nurse Assistant

Position Summary:

Cardinal Ritter Senior Services, a ministry of Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of St. Louis, is seeking a Certified Nurse Assistant to provide direct resident care under the supervision of the charge nurse, assisting with daily living activities, monitoring health status, and ensuring safety and comfort.

Responsibilities
  • Respond to call lights, conduct routine rounds, support mobility and meals, and report changes in condition.
  • Maintain a clean environment, follow care plans and facility procedures, and promote residents’ dignity and well‑being.
  • Administer nursing care based on the plan of care and under the direct supervision of charge personnel.
  • Perform and assist residents with personal activities of daily living, such as bathing, dressing, toileting, nail care, hair care, skin care, oral care, periodontal care, shaving, and communication.
  • Assist residents to meals and monitor food and fluid intake.
  • Perform only those functions permitted within the role of a CNA.
  • Conduct frequent Hall Rounds to ensure all residents’ care needs are met and monitor call light response times.
  • Interface in a positive and professional manner with all departments, participate in fostering positive employee morale, and report immediately to the DON and Administrator if abuse or neglect is suspected.
  • Work assigned Hall, do not vacate Hall without charge nurse or supervisory approval, and communicate prior to taking breaks.
  • Perform proper transfer techniques using a gait belt or mechanical device and organize work to utilize time efficiently.
  • Maintain good housekeeping standards in residents’ rooms and work areas, answer all call lights promptly, and ensure resident safety by making routine rounds.
  • Sign out when leaving division for break or meals, and report anything out of the ordinary immediately (e.g., change in condition, vital signs, poor appetite, changes in mental or physical status, falls, injuries, emesis).
  • Help meet residents’ emotional needs by talking and listening, promote activities or exercise for residents, and be familiar with emergency procedures of the facility.
  • Perform vital signs accurately, be responsible for the whereabouts of assigned residents, follow nursing policies and procedures, attend in‑services and mandatory education hours, and perform cleaning duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Experience Requirements
  • MUST have completed the State of Missouri Certified Nurse Assistant training program and be in good standing.
  • MUST have current CPR Certification or be willing to become CPR certified.
  • Must possess proper use of PPE and hand hygiene, oxygen safety, record and observe vital signs, and infection control.
  • Must have good interpersonal communication skills, be genuinely interested in working with senior adults, maintain confidentiality, loyalty, integrity, and dignity, and exhibit patience, honesty, cheerfulness, willingness, reliability, positive attitude, and observation skills.
  • Must use good judgement in recognizing symptoms indicative of a resident’s change in condition, be neat and clean in personal appearance, and have initiative.
Resources and Accountability

Responsible for the care, safety, well‑being of approximately 80 residents.
