Position Summary
This role serves as the clinical heartbeat of a premier pediatric endocrinology outpatient team, offering a 40‑hour, Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM schedule with no weekends or holidays. The RN Clinical Nurse Coordinator balances direct provider support and patient care during ambulatory sessions with critical care coordination, supporting a multidisciplinary team of 12 faculty, 4 fellows, 9 NPs, 6 RNs, and a robust clinical support staff.
Key responsibilities include:
- Clinical Triage:
Managing patient calls and ordering outpatient testing. - Advocacy:
Facilitating care team communication and patient education. - Efficiency:
Navigating complex patient care workflows and tasks within Epic.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Provides direct patient care including assessment, planning, and evaluation of patients.
- Completes health history and conveys findings to physicians.
- Documents all patient interactions in the EHR system.
- Provides diabetes education to patients, families, and caregivers.
- Analyzes blood sugar trends and recommends dose/technology changes.
- Develops and coordinates diabetes education material and programs.
- Provides phone consultation for prescription refills, sick calls, education, and other patient concerns.
- Attends outpatient clinic sessions with providers to provide care, education, and comprehensive assessment of patients.
- Coordinates patient care, orders diagnostic tests, conveys findings to physicians, assists in coordinating appointments and referrals to outside sources.
- Allocates resources such as home health, project concerns, and DME.
- Provides individual or small‑group education to initiate and coordinate diabetes care and diabetes equipment technology.
- Performs nursing administrative duties including compliance with environmental safety regulations, infection control standards, quality assurance, ADA standards, and HIPAA regulations.
- Acts as liaison and team member by facilitating communication and coordination of care between patients, families, and health team members.
- Educates patients and families about endocrinology‑related information.
- Develops, maintains, and provides education resources for non‑diabetic endocrine patients.

Education: Diploma, certification or degree is not required.
Certifications / Professional Licenses: Basic Life Support – American Heart Association;
Basic Life Support – American Red Cross;
Registered Nurse – Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation;
Registered Nurse – Missouri Division of Professional Registration.
Work Experience: Nursing 2 years.

Driver's License: Not required.
Preferred Qualifications- Graduate of an accredited nursing program with two years of nursing experience.
- Current RN licensure in Missouri and/or Illinois, in accordance with the Compact Act.
- Basic Life Support certification or obtain certification within one month of employment.
- Experience in pediatrics and endocrinology/diabetes medicine.
- Ability to attend conferences to gain up‑to‑date knowledge on endocrine and diabetes.
Education: B.S. – Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
