Overview
Utilizes the nursing process to provide patient care, maintains professional accountability for the assigned patients, evaluates the overall effectiveness of care provided by other direct care givers, coordinates patient care in conjunction with other departments, and maintains patient rights and confidentiality of patient information. Performs duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with Mercy’s mission, values, and Service Standards.

Schedule:
Full‑time, 36 hours / week
Shift: Night Shift, 7:00 PM–7:30 AM
- Experienced Nurses:
Up to $10,000 - New Graduate Nurses (less than 1 year of experience):
Up to $5,000
Med Surg 5E provides care for a wide variety of adult medical patients.
This unit offers strong opportunities to develop and strengthen core clinical skills including patient assessment, time management, and complex care coordination. Nurses on 5E gain experience with medical patients who require frequent monitoring, thoughtful care planning, and multidisciplinary teamwork.
- Small bowel obstructions
- Respiratory infections
- Cellulitis
- Diverticulitis
- Pneumonia
Education: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with one of the following:
- Associate Degree in Nursing
- Nursing Diploma
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
Licensure: Must hold and maintain a current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Missouri or possess compact licensure, in accordance with state board of nursing regulations.
Experience: Previous hospital experience is preferred and may be required depending on the unit.
Certifications- Required:
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association, or completion within 30 days of hire.

Additional state licensure or specialty certifications preferred - Experience:
Prior experience in specialty area or similar clinical setting
- Ability to push, pull, and lift up to 50 lbs regularly
- Prolonged standing and walking throughout the shift
- Ability to grip, reach, bend, kneel, twist, and squat as needed to perform nursing duties
