Overview

Barnes Jewish Hospital, part of Washington University Medical Center, is a 1500‑bed Level 1 Trauma Center and one of Missouri’s largest hospitals. The OR Manager for Pod 5 leads the operation for 25 operating rooms that provide 24/7 surgical services, including ENT, neuro/spine, and kidney/liver transplants.

Responsibilities
  • Operationally and clinically manage Pod 5 on a 24‑hour basis.
  • Lead a team of 200+ staff, including assistant nurse managers, charge nurses, resource nurses, and staff educators.
  • Manage hiring, training, assignment, performance evaluation, and professional development for the unit staff.
  • Develop and monitor staffing, revenue, and expense budgets; respond to business changes.
  • Ensure safe and appropriate patient care governed by evidence‑based practices.
  • Maintain compliance with departmental policies, regulatory requirements, and professional standards.
  • Promote customer satisfaction, process indicators, and quality improvement in the unit.
  • Research and implement systems to improve efficiency and support growth of the unit.
Qualifications
  • Minimum 2–5 years of nursing experience with 2 years of supervisory responsibility.
  • RN license required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing preferred; associate’s degree acceptable with substantial experience.
  • Experience in a high‑volume trauma or surgical setting preferred.
