Description:

Shift times are from 18:45 to 07:15. Could also work from 14:45 to 03:15 as needed. The average daily census is 97 visits per day. The unit has 26 beds. Patient age group includes adults and geriatrics. The patient-to-nurse ratio is 1:4 for each shift and on weekends. Weekend coverage is required every other weekend. The patient population has a high percentage of geriatric patients, with 40% over the age of 60.

The unit has a high admission rate, with 40% of patients admitted. It is a primary stroke center for TPA, and nurses are responsible for mixing the TPA. The facility is known as a top heart hospital and is level 1 certified for STEMI. No trauma certification is required, but the unit cares for Level 3 patients. The Emergency Severity Index (ESI) acuity level for medium ESI 1 and 2 patients is 23%.

ESI 4 patients make up 6% of the population, and ESI 5 patients are rarely seen. Familiarity with special procedures such as moderate sedation, chest tubes, and central lines is essential. ACLS, BLS, and PALS certifications are required. Triage and vent management experience is preferred. The unit does not accept first-time travelers. Scrubs should be navy blue or grey. All travelers will float within the service line as needed.

A maximum of 7 days of time off is allowed. No local candidates are accepted within a 75-mile radius. Mid-contract cancellations for the purpose of booking a different assignment are not allowed. Compliance deadlines must be met prior to starting the assignment. Travelers must have proper facial hair for fit testing or will be required to shave.
