Job Summary
Registered Nurse – Saint Louis University Hospital, MO-SSM Health. Provides comprehensive nursing assessment, care planning, and coordination with multidisciplinary teams using a patient‑centered approach during hospital stays.
Responsibilities- Complete age‑appropriate admission, transfer, and post‑operative assessments.
- Document findings accurately and fully in the electronic record.
- Assess education and discharge needs for patients and families.
- Reassess patients regularly and record changes in condition and response to care.
- Analyze assessment data, lab results, and physician orders to set short‑ and long‑term goals.
- Formulate evidence‑based nursing interventions.
- Incorporate disease‑specific best practices into care plans.
- Coordinate daily care with the care team and communicate via handoff reports.
- Administer medications and maintain accurate IV and parenteral nutrition records.
- Provide referrals, consultations, and patient/family education per protocol.
- Clarify and execute physician orders accurately and timely.
- Utilize infection‑control practices and document changes in patient status.
- Document ongoing evaluation of care effectiveness and modify the plan as needed.
- Report significant changes or concern promptly to physicians and other team members.
- Document variations from care and participate in incident reporting.
- Restraint Care – plan, document, and monitor restraint use and provide necessary care.
- Pain Management – assess pain, incorporate cultural considerations, and implement multimodal strategies.
- Abuse Assessment – recognize signs of abuse, report, and support patient safety.
- Adhere to quality standards, policies, and procedures.
- Participate in learning activities and committee work.
- Maintain current certifications and knowledge of hospital policies.
- Orient new staff and serve as a resource to colleagues.
- Delegate responsibilities appropriately and maintain a collaborative team environment.
- Provide supervision and educational support to students and new staff.
- Follow standard precautions and safe patient‑handling techniques.
- Report risk management concerns using the eSRM system.
- Fulfill annual mandatory training and competency requirements.
- Deliver courteous, respectful care and communicate effectively with patients and families.
- Maintain confidentiality and uphold professional standards.
- Utilize AIDET and hospital principles to improve customer satisfaction.
- Assist in developing unit‑based performance goals and data collection.
- Lead improvement projects when requested and participate in research activities.
- Deliver appropriate care for adults and geriatric populations.
- Apply age‑specific assessments and involve family in decision making.
- Use resources efficiently and document chargeable supplies.
- Prioritize tasks to complete duties on time.
- Licensed Registered Nurse in the State of Missouri (other state licenses may be accepted).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Current nursing license with all mandatory continuing education completed.
- Experience in acute care nursing environment preferred.
- Work Type:
Regular. - Shift: Night shift, 24 hours per week (approx. 24 scheduled weekly hours). Regular, irregular, and emergency situations may occur.
- Working Conditions:
Exposure to blood‑borne diseases, unpleasant or hazardous environments, and unpredictable patient acuity. - Physical Requirements:
Standing, walking, lifting, pushing, transferring, stooping, bending, and kneeling as needed.
