Overview

Barnes-Jewish Hospital at Washington University Medical Center is the largest hospital in Missouri and is ranked as one of the nation’s top hospitals by U.S. News & World Report. The Cardiac Diagnostic Lab provides non‑invasive diagnostic services to inpatient and outpatient populations in conjunction with partners at Washington University Physicians, including Transthoracic, Transesophageal, Stress Echocardiograms, Nuclear Stress Tests, Treadmill Exercise Stress Tests, Event and Holter Monitors, and EKG Processing.

Role

Purpose

Provides direct patient care activities within the standards of nursing care, managing assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care.

Responsibilities
  • Promotes patient and family centered care in a healing environment.
  • Educates patients and their families on illness or injury management, post‑treatment home care, and medication administration.
  • Participates in activities that promote patient safety, quality, and regulatory compliance.
  • Participates in professional development.
  • Develops, implements, and documents individual care plans with defined goals in collaboration with the interprofessional team, patients, family or caregivers, following established guidelines and standards.
  • Proactively plans and ensures communication of the care plan across the continuum of care.
  • Uses critical nursing skills to assess and evaluate physical, psychosocial, and emotional needs according to standards of care.
  • Assesses patient preferences and barriers to involvement in care, including values, emotional, spiritual, cultural, and population‑specific needs.
  • Operates as a safety‑sensitive position, maintaining constant alertness.
Qualifications
  • Education:

    Nursing Diploma or Associate’s Degree in Nursing.
  • Licenses &

    Certifications:

    Registered Nurse (RN).
  • Experience:

    None required.
  • Supervisor

    Experience:

    None required.
Preferred Requirements
  • 3+ years cardiac or critical care experience.
  • BLS/ACLS required or must obtain within 90 days of hire.
  • ADN, BSN, or MSN candidates accepted; ADNs must complete a BSN Agreement.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing preferred (experience < 2 years).
