Job Description
Barnes-Jewish West County Hospital offers highly specialized surgical and medical services in an intimate environment and is known for outstanding patient care. With 64 private patient rooms, 14 operating rooms, and four intensive care unit rooms, the facility was designed to provide a comforting environment that is innovative, efficient, and centered on the patient experience. The campus features a park‑like setting with landscaping and a walking path that winds through the grounds and connects to Millennium Park.
The Perioperative Services staff provide excellent surgical care by partnering with an extraordinary team of physicians and health‑care professionals.
Role
Purpose:
Performs an expanded perioperative role as a first assistant to surgeons during surgical procedures in the operating room. RNFA works alongside the surgeon to provide direct patient care and collaborates with the perioperative team and other health‑care providers when making decisions to plan care.
- Delivers intraoperative patient care as the first assistant to the surgeon(s) as a collaborative team member.
- Pre‑operatively performs a focused nursing assessment in reference to planned procedure, analyzes assessment data to determine nursing diagnosis, and identifies desired patient outcomes.
- Monitors patients response and modifies plan of care accordingly.
- Administers medications according to standard nursing practice.
- Develops and manages an individual plan of care that directs the intervention(s) of the RNFA and coordinates perioperative plan of care.
- Evaluates patient progress towards attaining outcomes and systematically evaluates quality of nursing practice.
- Contributes to professional growth of peers and integrates knowledge, skills, and experiences to meet patient and family needs throughout the continuum.
- Incorporates research findings into practice, advocates for individuals and groups related to perioperative health safety, and provides leadership in the profession.
