Graduate Nurse

Job Summary

Pre‑licensure graduate nurse hired with SSM Health, participating in the SSM Health Nurse Residency Program at Saint Louis University Hospital. Works under a supervising RN Preceptor to provide care to patients within scope of role and professional standards.

• Perform comprehensive nursing assessments and reassessments, including admission, transfer, and post‑operative assessments.
• Document assessment findings accurately and completely.
• Create, coordinate, and evaluate individualized care plans based on assessment data, diagnoses, lab results, and orders.
• Administer medications, monitor IV fluids, and manage parenteral nutrition according to policy.
• Collaborate with the health‑care team, coordinate care, and communicate effectively through hand‑off reports and verbal orders.
• Provide patient and family education, including discharge planning.
• Monitor patient status, recognize changes, and take appropriate nursing actions.
• Implement infection control practices and safe patient handling.
• Deliver specialized care: restraints, pain management, and abuse assessment.
• Maintain accurate documentation of nursing interventions and clinical outcomes.
• Participate in performance improvement, evidence‑based practice, and continuing education activities.
• Provide compassionate, courteous, and efficient service to patients, families, and colleagues.

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
• Eligible to practice as determined by the State Board of Nursing.
• One year or less experience as an RN.
• RN licensure in the state of Missouri (or within 6 months of graduation). Additional state requirements for Illinois, Oklahoma, Wisconsin may apply.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) Health Care Provider certification required; BLS must be obtained within 3 months of NCLEX pass date.
• Will obtain additional certifications (e.g., HI, BLS HCP) as required.

• Exposure to blood‑borne diseases and other occupational hazards.
• Irregular hours, including night shifts (7a‑7p, 7p‑7a).
• Occasional prolonged standing, walking, lifting, pushing, and transferring patients.
• Respond to emergency and crisis situations.
