Job Summary

The Registered Nurse is a professional practitioner who assesses, manages, directs, and provides nursing care activities during the patient‘s hospital stay and coordinates planning with other disciplines utilizing a patient/customer driven approach.

Responsibilities
  • Comprehensive Nursing Assessment/Reassessment

    A. Performs age-appropriate admission or transfer assessment, obtaining input from family/guardian when appropriate.

    B. Accurately documents findings.

    C. Performs assessments of post‑op/post‑invasive procedure patients.

    D. Assesses and documents education and discharge needs of patient and family on admission and throughout hospitalization.

    E. Provides patient reassessment documenting pertinent observations per plan of care.

  • Plan of Care Development

    A. Identifies short and long‑term goals based on patient needs.

    B. Formulates nursing interventions to achieve desired outcomes.

    C. Incorporates evidence‑based practice into care plan.

  • Nursing Interventions and Documentation

    A. Collaborates with health team members for daily plan of care.

    B. Communicates patient care and delivers accurate handoff reports.

    C. Administers medications accurately.

    D. Monitors IV fluids and parenteral nutrition.

    E. Completes referrals, requests consultations, and provides education.

  • Care Coordination and Safety

    A. Clarifies and implements physician orders.

    B. Assists physicians with procedures or delegates appropriately.

    C. Documents telephone/verbal orders with readback, uses audio only in emergencies.

    D. Recognizes changes in patient condition and takes appropriate actions; involves family/guardian in care decisions.

    E. Applies infection control practices daily.

  • Specialized Care for High‑Risk Patients

    A. Restraint care: initiates alternatives, applies restraints per procedure, monitors response, provides care, and documents use.

    B. Pain management: assesses pain, incorporates cultural beliefs, implements techniques, involves family, and considers alternative methods.

    C. Abuse assessment: recognizes signs, reports to appropriate authorities, and ensures patient safety.

  • Professional Accountability

    A. Adheres to quality and performance standards, participates in learning, maintains competencies.

    B. Demonstrates technical and cognitive skills.

    C. Updates knowledge of policies, participates in committees, and contributes to shared governance.

    D. Adapts positively to changes and supports peers.

  • Team Interaction

    A. Orient/precept new employees when required.

    B. Maintains collaborative team approach.

    C. Serves as resource for staff, patients, and physicians.

    D. Delegates appropriately and communicates plans precisely.

    E. Responsible for supervision and teaching of students/new nurses.

    A. Practices standard precautions and disposes hazardous waste appropriately.

    B. Maintains a safe, clean environment, minimizing clutter and adhering to dress code.

    C. Reports risk management concerns via eSRM.

    D. Completes mandatory training and certifications.

    A. Provides courteous, respectful, and timely care.

    B. Communicates effectively while maintaining confidentiality.

    C. Shares knowledge to facilitate workflow.

    D. Utilizes resources wisely, reducing waste.
