Assistant Nurse Manager

The Assistant Nurse Manager (ANM) supports the Nurse Manager (NM) with the operation of their designated unit(s). Provides coverage for other ANMs as needed. The ANM has responsibility and accountability for the direction and oversight of specific orientation, training, development of staff, and evaluation of individual staff performance. Functions as a role model, educator, practitioner, and leader. Influences care outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team to remove barriers and implement new evidence-based cutting-edge programs/processes.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Drafts schedules and leave for final approval by the NM.
  • Provided input into the performance of employees with the final evaluation completed by the NM.
  • Assists with making recommendations for selection of candidates for employment.
  • Applies clinical knowledge/judgment to lead staff involvement in planning, decision making, and evaluating outcomes; providing feedback to the NM who ultimately ensures nursing personnel provide timely nursing care that complies with generally accepted standards of practice.
  • Oversees work assignments and providing reports of contact or assisting with fact findings as needed to provide the NM with the information necessary to make recommendations for counseling and/or disciplinary actions.
  • Functions as a proficient clinician and is responsible and accountable for all elements of the nursing process when providing or overseeing direct patient care.
  • Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates delivery of care based on age specific components.
  • Assumes responsibility for the coordination of care focused on patient education, self-management, and customer satisfaction throughout the continuum of care.
  • Demonstrates sound decision-making and judgment and possess excellent interpersonal skills. Self-directed and influences care outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team and leading innovative process improvement initiatives.
  • Engages in professional organizations to enhance leadership and career growth and adheres to ethical principles in decision-making, fostering accountability at personal, organizational, and staff levels.
  • Equips staff with tools for competent care and promotes an environment accountability for high-quality, cost-effective outcomes.
  • Contributes to the development of care delivery models and environmental design, ensuring evidence-based, accessible, affordable, and equitable patient care.
  • Ensures compliance with accreditation and regulatory standards. Aligns nursing/clinical objectives with organizational strategic outcomes, participating in strategy planning and execution.
  • Promotes a workplace positively to achieve the organization's vision and mission.
  • Maintains knowledge and ensures compliance with all regulatory and accreditation standards, directives, policies, and standard operating procedures (SOP).

Preferred Experience:

Subacute Physical Rehabilitation, Medical/Surgical inpatient nursing, charge nurse and/or leadership. Certification in Rehabilitation nursing is a plus. VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package: VA Nurse Total Rewards

Pay:
Competitive salary, regular salary increases, potential for performance awards
