NICU Residency

Mercy is hiring for our NICU October Residency in St. Louis, offering new graduate nurses a comprehensive transition into neonatal intensive care. As a NICU Resident, you will provide compassionate, family-centered care to critically ill newborns under the guidance of experienced preceptors. Responsibilities include monitoring vital signs, administering medications, operating specialized equipment, and collaborating with neonatologists and the care team. The program blends classroom education, simulation, and supervised clinical practice, supporting professional growth in a culture of respect, teamwork, and continuous learning focused on exceptional patient outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct nursing care to critically ill and premature newborns in the NICUMonitor, document, and report infant vital signs, status changes, and responses to treatment
• Administer medications, fluids, and feedings in accordance with NICU protocols
• Operate and troubleshoot NICU equipment such as ventilators, infusion pumps, and monitors
• Collaborate with neonatologists, nurses, respiratory therapists, and other team members on care plans
• Educate and support families on infant condition, treatments, and discharge planning
• Participate in classroom, simulation, and precepted clinical learning activities
• Adhere to infection prevention, safety, and regulatory standards in all patient care
• Document care accurately in the electronic health record
• Engage in ongoing professional development and quality improvement initiatives
