Operating Room RN Residency & Earn as You Learn Program at Mercy Hospital STL
This program was designed for nursing students completing their senior practicum/preceptor hours at Mercy in the Operating Room. The students are given the unique opportunity to become Mercy coworkers (if they are not already employed by Mercy) and be paid a stipend for their senior practicum time while they work alongside a dedicated Mercy Nurse! MUST accept an RN residency in the Operating Room to qualify!
6-month contract post-graduation is required.

Maryville University, Mizzou, Missouri Baptist University, St Louis Community College (all campuses), Chamberlain, Jefferson College, East Central Community College, St Louis University, St Charles Community College, Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, Mineral Area College, University of Missouri St Louis, Southwestern Illinois College, Lewis and Clark Community College
The Main Operating Room at Mercy St. Louis Hospital is a Level I Trauma Center and Burn Center, delivering high-quality surgical care to patients of all ages, including pediatrics. We are committed to developing confident, well-rounded OR nurses through comprehensive training across all service lines, including instruction in both circulating and scrub roles.
Breakdown of Teams:
- General Surgery: general, burn, plastics, bariatric, colorectal
- Gyn Service Line: GYN, urology, and robotics
- Specialty Service Line:
Ortho and Neuro - ENT Service Line: ENT, OMF, dental, peds, and ophthalmology
Operating Room Nurse Residency Program
Designed for nurses without prior Operating Room experience, our residency program supports success through multiple learning modalities:
- Classroom didactics
- Online learning modules
- Hands-on clinical practice
Program Structure:
- Residency length: 5 months
- Mentorship: 1 additional month
- Following residency, nurses transition into a specialty mentorship, receiving focused training in their assigned service line.
- Residency hours, Monday-Friday, 7am-3pm
- 30-minute call time requirement

Qualifications
- Nursing degree from an accredited school
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Missouri
- BLS required
