Overview

Barnes‑Jewish Hospital (BJH) at Washington University Medical Center is the largest hospital in Missouri and is ranked as one of the nation’s top hospitals by U.S. News & World Report. BJH’s surgical services provide pre‑op and post‑op inpatient care for ENT and Plastic surgery patients, with a highly specialized focus on free flap reconstruction, surgical airway management, extremity replantation, and complex post‑operative care.

Provides direct patient care activities including assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation within the standards of nursing care.

• Promote patient‑ and family‑centered care in a healing environment; educate patients and families on self‑care, discharge plans, and medication administration.
• Participate in activities that promote patient safety, quality improvement, and regulatory compliance; engage in professional development.
• Develop, implement, and document individual plans of care with defined goals in collaboration with inter‑professional teammates; proactively communicate the care plan across the continuum of care.
• Use critical nursing skills to assess and evaluate physical, psychosocial, and emotional needs according to standards of care; assess patient preferences, values, spiritual and cultural needs.
• Because this is a safety‑sensitive position, maintain alertness and work in a safe manner at all times.
