Role Overview: The Staff Registered Nurse functions as a key member of the hemodialysis healthcare team, providing high-quality patient care in accordance with policies and standards. They support patient education, monitor treatment responses, and ensure safe delivery of dialysis therapy.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise and delegate tasks to Patient Care Technicians and other staff, assessing daily patient needs and developing care plans.
  • Educate patients and families on ESRD, dialysis procedures, medication, diet, and lifestyle compliance.
  • Implement and adjust treatment prescriptions, monitor patient responses, and communicate concerns to physicians or team leaders.
  • Perform initial and ongoing patient assessments, document care activities, and ensure accurate transcription of physician orders.
  • Manage laboratory specimen collection, processing, and shipment per protocols, and review lab results with physicians.
  • Maintain a safe environment, operate dialysis equipment safely, and respond to emergencies including CPR and infection control.
  • Participate in CQI activities, complete documentation, and ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements.
  • Support facility operations, including medication administration, patient documentation, and equipment maintenance.
Qualifications & Skills
  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing with current state licensure.
  • Minimum one year of medical-surgical nursing experience preferred; hemodialysis and ICU experience advantageous.
  • Completion of hemodialysis training and CPR certification required.
  • Strong clinical assessment, patient education, communication, and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to operate dialysis equipment and follow safety protocols.
  • Must meet color vision requirements and be willing to work in a healthcare environment with potential exposure to infectious materials.

Additional Requirements: Flexibility to provide coverage across facilities, adherence to policies, and commitment to ongoing professional development. The role involves physical activity, including patient lifting and prolonged standing, within a health care setting.
