The Nurse Supervisor for Pediatrics Ambulatory Care provides both clinical and operational leadership for a dynamic, multispecialty pediatric outpatient practice within the Department of Pediatrics at WashU Medicine. Based primarily is Children’s Hospital, this working supervisor role oversees approximately 20-25 nurses and support staff while supporting high-quality patient care across multiple ambulatory locations, including coverage needs at CSCC West, Graham Road, and Shiloh, Illinois.

• Drive hiring, onboarding, coaching, performance management, and ongoing competency development for nursing and support staff.

• A typical day may include rounding with team members, operational planning, responding to staffing needs, addressing patient care concerns, and providing direct clinical support when necessary.

• Round daily with staff, address patient care needs, step in with direct clinical support when needed, and resolve real-time operational challenges.

• Partner with providers, clinical teams, and leadership to maintain high standards of care across all locations.

Monday‑Friday primarily standard clinic hours (7:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.), with flexibility to adapt to operational and staffing needs.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Supervises nursing staff, including hiring/firing responsibilities, performance appraisals for subordinates, initiating disciplinary action.
• Coordinates patient services with physicians and staff to provide quality care in effective manner, conducting rounds to ensure quality of patient care delivery.
• Facilitates educational opportunities and quality improvement activities for staff to ensure compliance with medical school and regulatory guidelines.
• Assigns/coordinates activities and duties of staff orienting new staff and advising administration of conditions and performance issues.
• Provides direct patient care as needed, including development of patient care plans, administering medication, vitals, phlebotomy, monitoring IV therapies and maintaining records in accordance with approved nursing techniques.
• Promotes/maintains good public relations with patients and families, acting as liaison between other departments.
• Provides appropriate counsel to patients/families explaining medications, procedures and teaches care to ensure continuity of care and promote health care maintenance.
• Monitors supplies/equipment ordering/repairing as required.
