Description

American Traveler is hiring a Medical Surgical Oncology RN for a night shift contract requiring at least 1 year of oncology or med/surg experience with oncology patients and an active MO or compact RN license.

Details
  • Medical Surgical Oncology unit within a Magnet-designated, teaching, Level I Trauma hospital
  • Night shift schedule (3x12 hours, 19:00-7:30)
  • Patient ratios of 1:4-5, with BMT patients at 1:3 for all shifts
  • Cares for patients with solid tumors including lung, breast, and pancreatic cancer
  • BMT unit has 96 beds (experience required unless otherwise noted)
  • Performs IV starts, trach care, port and central line access, and chemotherapy administration if certified
  • Uses CAD pumps for medication administration
  • Average patient stay of 3-5 days
  • Required to work every other weekend
  • No on-call responsibilities
  • Will float within service line to meet facility needs
  • Documents using EPIC
Requirements
  • Active MO or compact RN license required (pending license accepted)
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
  • BSN preferred
  • Minimum 1 year of nursing experience required; oncology experience preferred but med/surg experience with oncology patients accepted
  • BMT experience not required
  • Skills in IV therapy, port/central line care, and infusion pump management required
  • Chemotherapy administration and monitoring skills preferred
  • Experience with dysrhythmia interpretation required
  • Phlebotomy skills required
  • Must pass Relias EKG exam covering interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
  • Must meet facial hair requirements for respirator fit testing
Additional Information
  • Provides direct medical-surgical oncology nursing care including chemotherapy support, port/line management, and post-treatment monitoring
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Local candidates within 75 miles of the facility are not accepted
  • No more than 7 days of RTO allowed per 13-week contract, with no RTO permitted during the first week
  • Standard travelers may work up to 18 months before requiring a 3-month break in service
  • Former permanent employees of BJC or Saint Luke's must wait 1 year before returning as a traveler
  • Navy blue scrub color required
  • Contract length is firm with no early cancellations to accept other assignments within the health system
