Position Summary

The Quality Control Manager is responsible for overseeing all quality control functions within a precision honing machine and tool manufacturing environment. This role ensures that products meet internal specifications, customer requirements, and applicable industry standards. The position leads inspection teams, manages quality processes, drives corrective actions, and supports continuous improvement across production and engineering operations.

This role ensures that products meet internal specifications, customer requirements, and applicable industry standards. The position leads inspection teams, manages quality processes, drives corrective actions, and supports continuous improvement across production and engineering operations.

Essential Functions Of The Job

The QUALITY CONTROL will be responsible for delivering results that include the following:

  • Oversee and manage daily inspection activities for incoming materials, in‑process components, and finished honing machines/tools.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain QC procedures, inspection plans, and work instructions based on engineering specifications and customer requirements.
  • Lead root cause analysis and corrective/preventive actions (RCA/CAPA) to resolve quality issues and prevent recurrence.
  • Maintain calibration programs for gauges, metrology equipment, and inspection tools.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing, engineering, and suppliers to improve product quality, reduce scrap, and ensure consistent process control.
Position Qualification Requirements

  • Strong knowledge of precision machining processes (especially honing), geometric dimensioning & tolerancing (GD&T), and complex mechanical inspection methods.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, CAD models, and detailed engineering specifications.
  • Proficiency with metrology tools such as CMMs, air gauges, surface finish testers, bore gauges, micrometers, and height gauges.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams, manage workloads, and coach inspectors in proper inspection and documentation methods.
  • Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and documentation skills, including experience with non‑conformance reporting and root‑cause methodologies (5 Why, Fishbone, DMAIC).
Education/License(s)/Certification(s) Required
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Quality‑related certifications preferred (e.g., ASQ CQI, CQT, CQA, CQE).
  • Training in SPC, ISO 9001 systems, and/or metrology practices highly beneficial.
Experience
  • 5–10 years of progressively responsible experience in quality control or quality assurance within a precision machining, honing, tooling, or related manufacturing environment, including at least 2–3 years in a supervisory or team‑lead role.

Physical/visual activities or demands that are commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job.

  • Regular standing, walking, and moving between production and inspection areas.
  • Ability to lift and handle parts, tools, and inspection equipment up to 40 lbs.
  • Close visual acuity required for inspecting precision components and reading detailed drawings.
Environmental/Atmospheric Conditions

Environmental and atmospheric conditions commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job.

  • Manufacturing environment with exposure to machine noise, oils, coolants, and airborne metal
  • Frequent interaction on the production floor and in metrology labs.
  • Occasional travel to suppliers or customers for quality audits or issue resolution.
