Research Scientist
Location: St. Louis
This job will provide basic technical support to develop, design and/or support internal R&D functions. This is a unique opportunity for an individual to gain valuable experience while working in a multidisciplinary, world class technology-based organization to help advance state-of-the-art R&D in agricultural sciences.
Preferred candidates should be familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures associated with laboratory operations. The candidate should have demonstrated technical and computer skills, with some experience in biological research, and will assist with protocol development, experiment planning, data analysis, and report generation. Successful candidates will perform basic research pertaining to plant reproductive tissues, be familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures associated with plant biology.
Expected knowledge includes experience and proficiency at following standard practices and various standard operating procedures. The successful candidate must be able to work as part of a high performing, multidisciplinary team. Results orientated with an attention to detail is a critical requirement. A bachelor's degree with 0-1 years of experience with an emphasis in agriculture, botany, biology, or a related area is a strong plus.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Will work with a senior scientist, under moderate supervision, executing experiments and delivering data. Attention to detail and completeness of work is required. Will assist with protocol development, experiment planning and report generation. May be called upon to support plant care in a greenhouse setting. May be asked to commute to several different worksites in the St. Louis area. Should expect to work with Team in field experiments outside of St.
Louis area. Field and greenhouse work includes working with plants, collecting and disposing of specimens in a safe and prescribed manner. Overnight travel up to 5% of time.
Travel will be required. Likely we will drive to one or more locations in IL and IA this summer for 2-4 day stays.
Working conditions:
Lab/Office = able to lift 20 lbs. Able to walk 0.5 miles / day without difficulty.
Driving:
Company fleet vehicles (Like Chevy Suburban: automatic) -- MVR Required
