Job Title
Developing an Alternative Method for Estimating the Intestinal Digestibility of Proteins in Ruminant Foods
About INRAEThe National Institute for Research in Agriculture, Food and Environment (INRAE) is a public research institution that brings together a community of 12,000 people, with 272 research, service, and experimental units, located in 18 centers across France. INRAE is among the world leaders in agricultural and food sciences, plant and animal sciences. Its research aims to build solutions for multi-performing agriculture, quality food, and sustainable management of resources and ecosystems.
WorkEnvironment, Missions, and Activities
You will work within the Mixed Research Unit on Herbivores. This Unit aims to produce, integrate, and disseminate knowledge, and share expertise to design multi-performing herbivore farming systems that respond to global challenges (environmental, socio-economic, and digital transition). The Unit has 112 permanent staff members and welcomes 90 non-permanent staff each year. It is organized into 4 research teams, a management team, and a support team.
You will work within the DINAMIC team. The team has been working for many years to characterize the value of feed for ruminants. These efforts have notably led to the development of the INRAE Tables of the Value of Feed for Ruminants (INRAE, 2018). Among the reference methods for measuring the value of feed (digestibility, ruminal degradation), some methods required the use of animals with digestive cannulas.
In a societal context where ethical concerns are increasingly important, the search for alternative methods to the use of animals with digestive cannulas is a key research axis of the DINAMIC team.
Your mission will be to develop an alternative laboratory method to estimate the intestinal digestibility of proteins in ruminant feed. You will be particularly responsible for the technical implementation of the development of this enzymatic method: setting up and monitoring enzymatic incubations, managing and analyzing samples (mainly nitrogen assays), writing standard operating procedures and technical reports. You will compile and format the results, then compare them with the results already obtained by the team using the reference method.
You will actively participate in discussions to develop the method. You will work closely with technical teams and under the direction of the project scientists.
Recommended Education: BTS/DUT (Bac+2)
Preferred Education: Bac+3 to Bac+5.
Desired Knowledge: biology, biochemistry, laboratory hygiene and safety rules, animal nutrition.
Preferred Experience: laboratory work experience.
Sought Skills: rigor, organization, critical thinking, teamwork, interest in laboratory work.
Quality of Life at INRAEBy joining INRAE, you benefit (depending on the type of contract and its duration):
- up to 30 days of leave + 15 additional leave days per year (full-time);
- support for parenthood: CESU childcare, leisure benefits;
- development of skills: training, career guidance;
- social support: counseling and listening, social and financial aid;
- vacation and leisure benefits: vacation vouchers, preferential rate accommodations;
