Senior Scientist - Molecular Microbiology

Position Summary

The Lopez laboratory studies viruses and their interaction with their host. Our goal is to understand how the different components of a virus population affect the infected organism and how this interaction influences virus evolution and maintenance in nature. The multidisciplinary approach exposes researchers to a diverse array of techniques and tools and to rich intellectual diversity.

• Collaborate on designing, conducting and reporting of research projects.
• Assist with grant preparation and reporting.
• Submit grant proposals in rare circumstances with approval of the PI, Department Head and Dean.
• Prepare and submit papers on research.
• Develop hypotheses to be tested and design methods to test them.
• Comply with established safety procedures and maintain required documentation on laboratory and specimen conditions.
• Manage research projects with other institutions and investigators.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Work in a laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological, chemical and radioactive hazards. Must be physically able to wear protective equipment and provide standard care to research animals.

  Ph.D. or terminal degree, or a combination of education and experience that provides an equivalent qualification.
• Certifications/Professional Licenses:
  None required.
• Work Experience:
  
  Postdoctoral (3 years).

• Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or a related field.
• Hands‑on experience with protein purification, biochemical assays and molecular biology techniques.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.

Grade R12 Salary Range $63,400.00 – $ / Annually. Individual rates within the range will be determined by qualifications, performance, equity within the department and budget.
