Research Scientist, Biotech Research
Position Summary
The Lopez laboratory studies viruses and their interaction with their host. Our goal is to understand how the different components of a virus population affect the infected organism and how this interaction influences virus evolution and maintenance in nature. The multidisciplinary approach exposes researchers to a diverse array of techniques and tools and to rich intellectual diversity.
PrimaryDuties & Responsibilities
- Collaborate on designing, conducting and reporting of research projects.
- Assist with grant preparation and reporting.
- Submit grant proposals in rare circumstances with approval of the PI, Department Head and Dean.
- Prepare and submit papers on research.
- Develop hypotheses to be tested and design methods to test them.
- Comply with established safety procedures and maintain required documentation on laboratory and specimen conditions.
- Manage research projects with other institutions and investigators.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Work in a laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological, chemical and radioactive hazards. Must be physically able to wear protective equipment and provide standard care to research animals.
Required Qualifications- Education:
Ph.D. or terminal degree, or a combination of education and experience that provides an equivalent qualification. - Certifications/Professional Licenses:
None required. - Work Experience:
Postdoctoral (3 years). - Driver's License:

- Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or a related field.
- Hands‑on experience with protein purification, biochemical assays and molecular biology techniques.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.

Grade R12 Salary Range $63,400.00 – $ / Annually. Individual rates within the range will be determined by qualifications, performance, equity within the department and budget.
