Omics Research Associate
Kelly Science & Clinical is hiring a Research Associate for a full-time, temp-to-hire opportunity in St. Louis, MO.
About the RoleIn this hands-on laboratory role, you will support mass spectrometry-based proteomics and metabolomics by executing and optimizing sample preparation workflows for a variety of biological matrices. Working closely with Operations and R&D teams, you will prepare complex biological samples, support client-driven research projects, and contribute to the development and refinement of laboratory methods and procedures.
This opportunity is ideal for an experienced laboratory professional with a strong background in both bioanalytical sample preparation and life science wet-lab techniques. Candidates with experience in proteomics, metabolomics, drug discovery, toxicology, or molecular biology are especially encouraged to apply.
What You'll Do- Prepare and extract biological samples, including tissues, plasma, and cell-based matrices, for mass spectrometry-based proteomics and metabolomics analyses
- Execute and optimize proteomics and metabolomics sample preparation workflows
- Perform established and experimental laboratory protocols to generate high-quality client and internal R&D data
- Review, update, and refine Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) as new methods are implemented
- Prepare laboratory buffers, LC-MS solvents, and stock solutions while supporting mass spectrometry sample queues
- Perform routine maintenance of analytical instrumentation and laboratory equipment
- Maintain accurate laboratory documentation using a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS)
- Coordinate sample preparation schedules to ensure project timelines and deliverables are met
- Participate in scientific training and meetings to stay current with emerging technologies and best practices
- Perform additional laboratory and research responsibilities as assigned
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Biochemistry, Chemistry, Molecular Biology, or a related scientific discipline
- (Candidates with a Ph.D. are not being considered for this position.)
- Minimum of 2 years of hands-on bioanalytical sample preparation experience
- Demonstrated experience with both mass spectrometry sample preparation and life science sample handling
- Experience working with biological matrices such as tissue, plasma, and cell samples
- Experience with multichannel pipetting and/or high-throughput sample preparation workflows
- Experience supporting proteomics and/or metabolomics workflows is highly preferred
- Strong laboratory technique and sample preparation skills for mass spectrometry applications
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality, reproducible results
- Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
- Experience maintaining accurate laboratory documentation and electronic records
- Effective communication and collaboration skills within cross-functional laboratory teams
- Ability to troubleshoot laboratory workflows and adapt to evolving research needs
- Experience in proteomics, metabolomics, drug discovery, toxicology, molecular biology, or related bioanalytical research environments
- Familiarity with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS)
- Experience supporting analytical chemistry and life science research in a regulated or fast-paced laboratory environment
- Comfortable working in collaborative R&D and Operations teams supporting client-driven projects

- Contract:
Approximately 6-month contract with the intent to convert to a permanent position based on performance (conversion not guaranteed) - Pay Rate: $34–38/hour, depending on directly relevant sample preparation experience
