40. The Persaud lab in the Department of Pathology & Immunology at WashU Medicine is seeking a Research Assistant. The lab, established in 2025, conducts preclinical studies focused on optimizing the safety and efficacy of hematopoietic stem cell transplantation for hematologic diseases, particularly non‑malignant disorders. Researchers use murine and humanized mouse models to integrate minimally toxic, antibody‑based transplant conditioning with novel stem cell mobilization regimens for autologous gene therapies, notably for sickle cell disease.
Responsibilities
- Conduct research experiments and assays, including cell culture, molecular biology (gene editing), antibody production and engineering, flow cytometry, and mouse hematopoietic stem cell transplant models with in vivo stem cell mobilization.
- Evaluate research results, report findings, and discuss project outcomes with staff.
- Perform data entry and maintain research data files.
- Coordinate tissue cultures, reagents, probe tests, and related materials.
- Comply with established safety procedures and maintain required laboratory documentation.
- Collaborate with other institutions and investigators on research projects.
- Participate in hypothesis development and experimental design.
- Assist with general supply, equipment orders, laboratory maintenance, and cleaning.
- Conduct literature research on specified topics.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum of 2 years’ laboratory operations experience.
- No specific certification or professional license required.
- Driver’s license not required for the position.
- Experience with mouse handling and procedures.
- Background in stem cell biology, hematology, and/or immunology.
- Proficiency in flow cytometry and CRISPR‑Cas9 gene editing.
- Strong written and verbal communication and organizational skills.
- Experience with data analysis and interpretation.
- Familiarity with animal restraints, blood sampling, document research, genome editing, hematology, immunology, laboratory processes, and scientific research.
Grade R07‑H. Salary range: $17.10 – $29.09 per hour.
