Job Description

This position will be responsible for hands-on development and optimization of methods, products and strategies needed to increase the performance of custom or catalog cell culture medium. Primary job functions include: chemical stock preparation, cell culture media hydration, routine mammalian cell culture techniques, experimental design execution, and presentation of results to the internal project teams. The successful candidate will be a highly motivated and creative individual eager to be a part of an active, multidisciplinary group of scientists responsible for the design and development of cell culture products for the Biopharmaceutical Industry.

Key Accountabilities:
  • Conducts experiments in accordance with established procedures (e.g. adaptation from literature or internal procedures) with daily to weekly supervision.
  • Broaden technical skills and scientific knowledge from experience and by learning additional methods from peers, supervisors, seminars and literature.
  • Maintain laboratory notebook with detailed experimental designs and results and assist in preparing written project reports.

  • Performs routine assignments using existing procedures or works autonomously within established procedures and practices that require knowledge of concepts and procedures within a job discipline or specialized technical expertise within an analytical/scientific method.
  • Strategic Impact:
  • Impacts the effectiveness of own work team through the quality and timeliness of the work produced.
  • Largely works within standardized procedures and practices to achieve objectives and meet deadlines and gains some discretion in problem solving.

  • Manages own workload. Expands technical contribution

  • Exchanges ideas and information effectively in a concise and logical way. Uses tact and diplomacy when dealing with others.
  • Recommends increasingly complex modifications to existing systems, processes, techniques or programs for improvement.
  • Performs assigned scientific experiments with decreasing level of supervisor's assistance.
  • Provides input and identifies problems with scientific experiments, analyses/tasks in related areas.
  • Demonstration of strong oral and written communication skills.
Other Specific Requirements

B.S. in Biological Sciences, Biochemical/Biomolecular Engineering, Chemistry, Material Sciences or equivalent experience in a related technical area.

Critical Skills

Competent with Microsoft Office required.

Good understanding of aseptic technique, biology, biochemistry, and/or cellular metabolism.

Mammalian cell/tissue culture techniques including thawing, subculturing, and freezing.

Critical thinking; ability to identify and communicate a problem in order to initiate corrective actions.

Able to work independently and in a team environment.

Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Experience in analytical techniques and method development, experiment design, and statistical analysis.
