** Position Summary
** Postdoctoral Research Associate positions are available in the Shmuylovich Laboratory at WashU Medicine. Our lab develops and translates novel optical imaging technologies for noninvasive diagnosis and monitoring of human disease, with a particular focus on skin imaging across the full spectrum of skin pigmentation. We combine biomedical optics, multispectral and infrared imaging, spectroscopy, image processing, computational analysis, and clinical investigation to develop technologies that can improve diagnostic accuracy and reduce disparities in care.
Current projects span visible, near-infrared, and short-wave infrared imaging and include applications in dermatology, vascular disease, tissue injury, and physiologic monitoring. The laboratory works at the intersection of engineering, physics, computation, and clinical medicine, with opportunities to participate in device development, optical system design, image and signal analysis, translational studies, and human-subject research.
Postdoctoral researchers will have the opportunity to lead independent projects while working closely with a multidisciplinary team of clinicians, engineers, physicists, and collaborators across WashU and other institutions. We are particularly interested in creative and highly motivated scientists who enjoy solving technically challenging problems with a clear path toward clinical translation. Trainees will be encouraged to develop their own research ideas, publish their work, present at national meetings, and pursue independent funding and career-development opportunities.

Duties & Responsibilities:

* Assists with grant preparation and reporting.
* Prepares and submits papers on research.
* Assists in the design of research experiments.
* Evaluates research findings and assists in the reporting of the results.
* Conscientious discharge of their research responsibilities.
* Maintains conformity with ethical standards in research.
* Maintains compliance with good laboratory practice including the maintenance of adequate research records.
* Engages in open and timely discussion with their mentor regarding possession or distribution of material, reagents, or records belonging to their laboratory and any proposed disclosure of findings or techniques privately or in publications.
* Collegial conduct towards co-trainees, staff members and members of the research group.
* Adherence to all applicable University policies, procedures and regulations. All data, research records and materials and other intellectual property generated in University laboratories remain the property of the University.
