The security division focuses on the safety and security of patients, visitors, and staff within the hospital and campus.
Role PurposeThe Armed Security Officer ensures continuous patrols of the Barnes Jewish Hospital / St. Louis Children’s Hospital / Washington University Medical Campus in St. Louis City. The officer remains vigilant to the safety and welfare of visitors, patients, volunteers, staff, employees, and hospital property, and communicates with the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department.
ScheduleNight shift: 10:30 pm – 7:00 am. Every other weekend.
Responsibilities- Individuals must be 21 years or older.
- Respond to emergency and non‑emergency situations in accordance with established department protocol.
- Prevent losses and damage by reporting irregularities and policy violations.
- Mitigate crisis situations, including disturbances, fires, and crimes against persons or property.
- Maintain the organization’s stability by complying with legal requirements and interacting with the police department as necessary.
- Complete reports detailing observations, incidents, and surveillance activities; interview witnesses and obtain signatures.
- Secure premises and personnel; monitor surveillance equipment; inspect buildings, equipment, and access points; permit entry via continuous patrols.
- Operate with a constant state of alertness as this is a safety‑sensitive position.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- No prior experience required.
- Valid Driver’s License.
- Associate’s Degree.
- At least 2 years relevant experience.
- Certifications:
ASP Baton, CPR/AED Instructor, Nonviolent Crisis Intervention, PPCT, Armed Security Officer’s License.
