Security Officer

Job Summary

Provides a reasonably safe and secure environment by providing security services for the staff, patients, visitors, and premises as well as serving as first responders to urgent facility matters.

• Conduct interior and exterior rounds, observe for safety and security issues, theft, and monitor parking lots.
• Promote visitor and employee safety by providing door checks, detecting lighting deficiencies, confirming proper operation of elevators, assisting with disruptive individuals, patient restraints, and providing escorts to both staff and clients when requested.
• Respond to overhead pages or requests for assistance, including escorting emergency personnel through the building and providing post‑mortem services.
• Provide professional customer service when dealing with complex and dynamic situations, utilizing a proactive approach to identifying safety and security hazards by communicating with clinical staff.
• Observe and report any security concerns or assessments.
• Complete incident reports and shift logs and forward them to appropriate individuals.
• Assist with maintenance through property conservation and campus safety approaches such as alarm testing, check life safety equipment, AEDs, oxygen tanks, fire extinguishers, access control, badging, and door integrity checks.
• Enforce policies and procedures of the organization.
• Assist with monitoring, reviewing, and investigating incidents utilizing the video management system.
• May operate motor vehicle to patrol.
• Work in a constant state of alertness and maintain a safe manner.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Minimum age 21 years.
• Willingness to become an armed officer while employed with SSM Health.
• Successful completion of a psychological evaluation via a third‑party company.
• Valid driver’s license in Missouri and motor vehicle record check.
• All SSM Health standard hiring practices apply (background check and drug screening).

Constant use of hearing; constant use of vision for distances near and far; frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling objects weighing 0‑25 lbs.; frequent standing, twisting, walking; frequent use of vision to judge distances; occasional bending, stooping, climbing, kneeling, sitting, squatting, reaching, gripping, repetitive foot/leg and hand/arm movements; occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling objects weighing 25‑50 lbs.; occasional use of keyboard/data entry;

occasional use of smell to detect/recognize odors; occasional driving; rare crawling, running and lifting/moving patients.

High School diploma/GED or 10 years of work experience.

• Security Officer License – St. Charles County or St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department.
