The Code Compliance Officer is responsible for enforcement of Nuisance Ordinances adopted by the City. The purpose of the Code Compliance Officer is to identify, document, and resolve grass, garbage, illegal vehicles and other nuisance violations. This employee will be a non-commissioned member of the University City Police Department.
Examples of Common TasksThe following duties are normal for this position, but not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required as assigned.
- Performs routine patrols and nuisance inspections out in the public
- Notifies and communicates directly with property owners and/or occupants of existing nuisance violations
- Maintains Department property files including documentation of violations
- Prepares violation reports
- Performs follow-up inspections of existing violations as required
- Attends Administrative Adjudication court as necessary
- Ability to enforce City ordinances with firmness, tact, and impartiality
- Must be especially courteous and customer-service oriented
- Ability to explain ordinances, processes, and procedures
- Ability to function well under sometimes hostile situations
- Ability to work as a team member and to foster a teamwork environment
- Ability to be decisive, exercise initiative, and sound judgment
- Ability to prepare and maintain records and prepare reports and forms on time
- Ability to balance and prioritize simultaneous calls and assignments
- Ability to cope with frequent interruptions and adapt to changing needs
- Ability to work autonomously and independently
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Excellent communication skills
- Basic personal computer knowledge
- Current & valid driver's license
- Experience working with public under emotionally trying circumstances
- Preferably 2-3 years of professional experience; in a related field preferred but not required
This position is split with about 50% office and 50% out in the field.
Travel between locations is required.
