Position Summary
The HVAC Controls Technician I supports the operation of building automation and HVAC control systems by performing entry-level troubleshooting, calibration, and maintenance of sensors, controllers, and related equipment. Works under close supervision. Assists in responding to control-related service requests, documents system performance, and identifies basic issues impacting HVAC functionality and occupant comfort. Designed to build foundational technical knowledge in HVAC controls, including interpreting system data, understanding control sequences, and applying safe work practices.

Duties & Responsibilities
- Assists in troubleshooting, adjusting, and calibrating HVAC building automation system sensors and controllers for equipment such as air handling units, VAV boxes, pumps, and fans.
- Responds to work orders related to HVAC controls issues under supervision and assists in resolving system problems.
- Supports evaluation and modifications of basic control sequences and assists with identifying hardware or software issues.
- Performs routine calibration, testing, and documentation of HVAC systems and controls.
- Assists with software updates, downloads, and verification of BAS systems.
- Communicates with customers and team members to support issue resolution and maintains service quality.
- Reads and interprets basic plans, diagrams, and technical documentation.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

- Employee may be required to work in the vicinity of labs containing bio‑hazardous radioactive substances.
- Exposure to wet and cold conditions, as well as noise and vibration from operation equipment.
- Must be able to work in morgues, gross anatomy and pathology laboratories.
- Ability to move to on and off‑campus locations.

- Using tools requiring high dexterity.

Required:
High school diploma or equivalent or a combination of education and experience.
Driver’s License:
Class E (MO) or Class D (IL) license with a good driving record.
Certification / Professional Licenses:
No specific certification or professional license is required.
Relevant Skill Trade Functions: 2 Years.
Preferred: 4 Years in Facilities HVAC, including technical support of Johnson Controls Metasys or equivalent BAS system, preferably in a large industrial/commercial or hospital setting.

$25.47 – $39.49 per hour.
