Salary:
Applicants who meet the minimum experience and training requirements will start at $39,884. Applicants who have completed a registered apprenticeship with journeyman status will start at $52,442.
- Operate liner truck to paint roadway markings.
- Lays out new roadway markings based on plans.
- Hand paints roadway markings such as arrows, stop bars, crosswalks, etc.
- Prepares surfaces for painting. Repairs plaster, cleans surfaces, scrapes/removes loose paint, and sandblasts surfaces.
- Mixes and tints paint. Applies primer and finish coats through hand application or spraying.
- Repairs wood for refinishing. Refinishes wood.
- Removes and replaces window glass.
- Hangs wall coverings.
- Lays out and stripes parking lots, runways and taxiways.
- Lays out and stencils signs.
- Sets up and removes ladders and scaffolding.
- Maintains all equipment.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Requires the ability to perform basic level of data analysis including the ability to review, classify, categorize, prioritize and/or reference data, statutes and/or guidelines and/or group, rank, investigate and diagnose. Requires discretion in determining and referencing such to established standards to recognize interactive effects and relationships. - Human Interaction:
Requires the ability to explain, demonstrate and clarify to co-workers within well-established policies, procedures and standards. Ability to follow specific instructions and respond to simple requests from supervisors. - Equipment, Machinery, Tools and Materials Use:
Requires the ability to operate, calibrate, tune, synchronize, and perform complex rapid adjustment on equipment, machinery and tools such as painting rollers/brushes, scrapers, common hand and power tools, ladders, scaffolding, stencils, sandblasting equipment, compressor, paint sprayer, large paint stripers, glass cutter, and/or related materials used in performing essential functions. - Verbal Aptitude:
Requires the ability to utilize a wide variety of reference and descriptive data and information such as work orders, inventory sheets, time sheets, labor and materials reports, job estimates, blueprints, and general operating manuals. - Mathematical Aptitude:
Requires the ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication and division; calculate percentages, fractions and decimals; compute ratios and proportion; calculate surface areas and volumes. - Functional Reasoning:
Requires the ability to apply principles of rational systems. Ability to interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagrammatic or schedule form. Ability to exercise independent judgment to adopt or modify methods and standards to meet variations in assigned objective. - Situational Reasoning:
Requires the ability to exercise the judgment, decisiveness and creativity in situations involving a variety of generally pre-defined duties that may be subject to frequent change. - Environmental Factors:
Tasks may risk exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, fumes, temperature and noise extremes, machinery, vibrations, electric currents, traffic hazards, heights, toxic/poisonous agents. - Physical Requirements:
Requires the ability to lift, push and pull carts, ladders, painting equipment and signs up to fifty (50) pounds. Requires manual dexterity to paint and perform related tasks. Requires the ability to stoop, kneel, bend, twist, balance and climb while painting and making signs. - Sensory Requirements:
Requires the ability to recognize and identify degrees of similarities or differences between characteristics of colors and shapes associated with job-related objects, materials and tasks. Incumbents are required to recognize colors and shapes to paint and letter signs. Requires the ability to distinguish object at close range.
Three years of experience as a commercial painter including work operating spray-painting machines and compressors or work operating paint equipment on a paint-lining truck; or completion of a recognized Painter apprenticeship program; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license while employed by the City of St. Louis at the time of filing application. Only qualified applicants who provide proof of a valid driver’s license will be considered for this position. Must be able to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License (Class
B) by completion of the working test period.
