Incumbents in this position perform maintenance and repair to city buildings, equipment, and facilities.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities- Maintain and repair stationary engines and mechanical equipment.
- Operate high pressure equipment, generators, air compressors, pumps and other devices.
- Perform minor electrical repair to include replacement of light fixtures, bulbs, ballast, fuses, circuit breakers, electric door locks, and other electrical work.
- Perform minor plumbing repairs including repair or replacement of toilets, sinks, showers, washers, water valves, sump pumps, flush‑o‑meters, cut and solder water lines, unclog drains and other plumbing work.
- Install finish goods to include laying floor tile, carpet, painting, installing and finishing wood, metal and drywall.
- Replace and/or repair cable‑ready security cameras and recording equipment.
- Be available for on‑call duty to include snow removal, evaluate emergency maintenance needs and perform emergency repairs on an on‑call rotation.
- Repair and maintain plumbing, steam and water systems, windows, doors, locks, pumps, fans and other city building facilities and equipment.
- Maintain and perform minor repairs to electrical fixtures, wiring and equipment.
- Replace plumbing, electrical and building components, fixtures and equipment.
- May fabricate items from metal.
- Operate a wide variety of power and hand tools and equipment to complete tasks.
- May perform concrete pouring and finishing duties; repair asphalt pavement, erect and repair fences, erect signs, and install and repair park and recreation equipment.

Ability to perform basic level data analysis, review, classify, prioritize and reference data, statutes and guidelines, and recognize relationships. - Human Interaction:
Ability to explain, demonstrate and clarify procedures, follow specific instructions, and respond to simple requests. - Equipment, Machinery, Tools and Materials Use:
Ability to operate, calibrate, tune, perform complex adjustments on equipment and tools such as carpenter, plumbing, measuring, circuit tester, ladders, hydraulic lifts, shop bench tools, motor vehicles, concrete tools, welder/cutting torch, compressor, pumps. - Verbal Aptitude:
Use reference and descriptive data such as regulations, blueprints, maps, construction drawings, manuals, work orders, parts lists and material safety data sheets. - Mathematical Aptitude:
Perform arithmetic, calculate percentages, decimals, fractions, surface area, volume, weights, measures and basic geometry. - Functional Reasoning:
Carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form; apply independent judgment within semi‑routine tasks. - Situational Reasoning:
Exercise judgment, decisiveness and creativity in situations involving defined duties that may change frequently. - Environmental Factors:
Exposure to adverse conditions such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, temperature extremes, noise, machinery vibration, electric currents, traffic hazards and toxic agents. - Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift, push, pull equipment and supplies; stoop, crouch, bend, twist, climb and balance for maintenance tasks. - Sensory Requirements:
Recognize colors and textures, detect hazardous odors and fumes, hear equipment operation sounds, distinguish shapes and objects clearly.
An Associate's degree in Building Maintenance, Building Systems Engineering Technology, or a related field with an emphasis on electrical systems, carpentry or plumbing; or two years of experience in the building maintenance trade. Experience must demonstrate proficiency in the building trades such as carpentry, electrical, plumbing or locksmith. OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
