CITY OF CLEVER Public Works Maintenance Worker

FLSA Status: Full-Time, Non-Exempt
Starting Pay: $18.00 per hour (Higher starting pay may be considered based on qualifications and experience.)
Reports To: Public Works Director
Position SummaryThe Public Works Maintenance Worker performs a variety of maintenance, repair, and construction duties to support the City's streets, parks, buildings, utilities, and other public infrastructure. This position helps ensure City facilities and property are safe, clean, and properly maintained while providing excellent service to the citizens of Clever.
The employee may be required to work outside regular business hours during emergencies, severe weather events, or other situations requiring immediate response.
MUST be willing to get at least a DS1 certification shortly after hired.
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe duties listed below are representative of the position and are not intended to be all-inclusive.
Streets and Right-of-Way- Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on City streets.
- Install, repair, and replace street signs and traffic control devices.
- Assist with pavement patching and roadway maintenance.
- Maintain drainage ditches, culverts, and rights-of-way.
- Remove debris and hazards from City streets.
- Mow, trim, edge, weed-eat, and maintain City parks, rights-of-way, and public properties.
- Plant, trim, and maintain trees, shrubs, and landscaping.
- Maintain playgrounds, walking trails, and other public facilities.
- Remove snow, ice, or storm debris when necessary.
- Locate City-owned water and sewer lines.
- Assist with construction, repair, and maintenance of water and sewer infrastructure.
- Install water meters for new service connections.
- Read water meters and report usage accurately.
- Assist utility personnel during emergencies.
- Perform general maintenance and minor repairs on City-owned buildings and facilities.
- Maintain City equipment, tools, and vehicles.
- Keep work areas organized and safe.
- Assist with animal control activities as assigned.
- Assist with code enforcement when directed.
- Respond to citizen concerns and requests in a courteous and professional manner.
- Assist other City departments as operational needs require.
- Operate equipment, machinery, and hand tools safely.
- Follow all City safety policies and procedures.
- Complete work orders and basic records accurately.
- Participate in training as required.
- Perform other duties assigned by the Public Works Director or City Administration.
- Possess a high school diploma or GED.
- Hold a valid Missouri driver’s license.
- Successfully pass a background investigation.
- Be legally authorized to work in the United States.
- Be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
Previous experience in public works, construction, landscaping, utilities, equipment operation, or general maintenance is preferred but not required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities- Safely operate power tools, hand tools, lawn equipment, and light construction equipment.
- Follow oral and written instructions.
- Work independently with minimal supervision.
- Communicate professionally with coworkers and the public.
- Understand and follow safety procedures.
- Perform basic record keeping and complete work documentation.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Respond calmly and effectively during emergencies.
- Learn City policies, procedures, and applicable ordinances.
This position requires frequent physical activity, including:
- Standing, walking, bending, kneeling, climbing, and lifting throughout the workday.
- Frequently lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds.
- Occasionally lifting or moving heavier materials with assistance or equipment.
- Operating trucks, tractors, mowers, utility vehicles, and maintenance equipment.
- Working in confined spaces, uneven terrain, and around moving equipment.

Work is performed both indoors and outdoors and routinely includes exposure to:
- Extreme heat and cold
- Rain, snow, and adverse weather
- Dust, dirt, mud, and pollen
- Loud noise from equipment
- Moving traffic and heavy machinery
- Chemicals used in maintenance operations
- Emergency response situations
Employees are expected to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow all established safety practices.
