Incumbents in this position lead a crew of painters, painter helpers, or assigned personnel, and assist with a variety of painting projects.

• Schedules, distributes/balances and guides the work assignments of co-workers, according to established workflow/assignment requirements, to assist supervisory staff with timely completion of the assigned work load.
• Lays out, assigns, supervises and monitors journeyman painters.
• Refinishing interiors and exteriors of building, signs, equipment and other structures.
• Orders supplies and materials for painting projects.
• Completes work reports and time sheets.
• Cleans, maintains and performs routine repairs on equipment.
• Removes and replaces window glass, hang wall coverings as well as lay out and stripes parking lots, runways and taxiways.
• Lays out and stencils signs, sets up and removes ladders and scaffolding.
• Mixes and tints paint, apply primer and finish coats through hand application or spraying.
• Repairs and refinishing wood.
• Inspected work ensures it is completed neatly and correctly.
• Ensures subordinates are familiar with safety programs and guidelines established in the city safety manual.
• Ensures employees who are issued personal protective equipment are used at all times.
• Reporting vehicle damages/accidents and personal injuries.
• Keeps daily and weekly equipment condition reports and prepares daily status reports.
• Prepares requisitions and minor purchased orders, trains co-workers, as directed, in specific tasks, job practices and procedures of painting work to improve and maintain the performance levels of these employees.
• Keeps updates of new products and technology related to the painting trade.
• Observing subordinates while evaluating their work performance.
• Ensures that equipment assigned to crew receives proper care and maintains a valid driver’s license.

• Data Utilization:
  Requires the ability to perform basic level of data analysis including the ability to review, classify, categorize, prioritize and/or reference data, statutes and/or guidelines and/or group, rank, investigate and diagnose. Requires discretion in determining and referencing such to established standards to recognize interactive effects and relationships.
• Human Interaction:
  Requires the ability to persuade, convince, influence, train and monitor co-workers, in favor of a desired outcome. Requires the ability to act as a lead person.
• Equipment, Machinery, Tools and Materials Use:
  Requires the ability to operate, calibrate, tune and synchronize, and perform complex rapid adjustment on equipment, machinery and tools such as painting rollers/brushes, scrapers, common hand and power tools, ladders, scaffolding, stencils, sandblasting equipment, compressor, paint sprayer, glass cutter, and/or related materials used in performing essential functions.
• Verbal Aptitude:
  Requires the ability to utilize a wide variety of reference and descriptive data and information such as work orders, project reports, time sheets, material safety data sheets, work safety regulations, color charts and general operating manuals.
• Mathematical Aptitude:
  Requires the ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication and division; calculate percentages, fractions and decimals.
• Functional Reasoning:
  Requires the ability to apply principles of rational systems. Ability to interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagrammatic or schedule form. Ability to exercise independent judgment to adopt or modify methods and standards to meet variations in assigned objectives.
