Facility Systems Technician

This is an entry-level position requiring basic knowledge of boiler, HVAC, refrigeration, control system maintenance and operation, plumbing, electricity, carpentry, and painting. It is recommended that incumbents attend one or two years of trade school to prepare them for advancement opportunities. The Facility Systems Technician I position will allow the incumbent to learn operations for HVAC, refrigeration systems, plumbing, electricity, work practices, safety procedures, and become familiar with the respective equipment regulatory requirements.

This position will also provide an opportunity to learn proper use of basic tools and equipment necessary to maintain and troubleshoot HVAC and refrigeration systems. This position will support small and mid-size hospitals, critical access hospitals, small inpatient/outpatient facilities, and clinics. The Facility Systems Technician provides the necessary skill to operate, maintain, and repair various electrical/plumbing systems, movable equipment, physical plant equipment, furniture, walls, ceilings, and floors.

Minimum Required Qualifications

Education:

None

• Valid Drivers License for all Mercy locations
• Mercy Arkansas Hospitals require High Pressure Boiler Operators License administered by Arkansas Dept. of Labor and Licensing where boilers are installed. Incumbents must have required license prior to advancing to Facility Systems Technician II, when applicable.
• Mercy OKC Hospital requires Class II Boiler Operator's License administered by Oklahoma City where boilers are installed. Incumbents must have required license prior to advancing to Facility Systems Technician II, when applicable.
• Mercy OKC Hospital requires Class II Boiler Operator's License administered by Oklahoma Dept. of Labor where boilers are installed. Incumbents must have required license prior to advancing to Facility Systems Technician II, when applicable.
• Class C Tank Operator Training and Certification required for all Mercy locations. Must achieve certification within 90 days of employment.
• Fire door maintenance training program with certificate of completion. Incumbents must have training prior to advancing to Facility Systems Technician II.
• UL fire stop training with certificate of completion. Incumbents must have training prior to advancing to Facility Systems Technician II.

Experience:

This is an entry-level position with a preference of 1 or more years commercial experience working with any of the following equipment: HVAC, boilers, and refrigeration equipment.

• Requires oral and written communication skills to communicate with customers and follow instructions.
• Verbal ability required to read and understand technical manuals.
• Numerical ability required to make calculations for testing, installation, measurement, estimation and repair of equipment.
• Ability to prioritize work assignments, conceptualize and formulate finished product.
