40. The program offers a 12‑month Advanced Practice Provider Fellowship for early‑career Psychiatric‑Mental Health Nurse Practitioners (PMHNP) and Physician Assistants (PA). Two fellows are hired each year, with start dates around May1 and November
1. Fellows learn from leading faculty and gain experience in community‑based, academic, hospital, and outpatient psychiatric settings.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Provide patient care in a variety of clinical settings within the BJC Healthcare system.
- Allocate 75% of time to direct patient care and 25% to didactic educational activities.
- Spend six months working with adults and six months with children and adolescents, including two months of hospital‑based care and four months of outpatient care.
- Attend weekly continuing education sessions and other required training.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Master’s degree in Nursing (MSN) or Physician Assistant from an accredited program.
- Valid NP or PA license in Missouri (or Illinois for NP) obtained at least five months before the fellowship start.
- For NP applicants:
Psychiatric‑Mental Health Nurse Practitioner or equivalent. - For PA applicants:
Physician Assistant licensed in Missouri or Illinois. - Basic Life Support (BLS) certification with in‑person skills assessment.
- Strong communication, critical thinking, cross‑cultural competence, and teamwork skills.
- M.S.N. with emphasis in Psychiatric‑Mental Health Nursing.
- Additional specialty certifications relevant to the fellowship focus.
- Experience in inpatient or outpatient psychiatric settings.
$80,000 annually.

- Current malpractice insurance and malpractice history, if applicable.
- List of previous practice locations, if applicable.
- Two letters of recommendation: one from an APP program faculty member and one from a recent physician supervisor, sent directly to bnorthrop.
- Certification documentation:
American Nurses Credentialing Center, National Commission on Certifications of Physicians Assistants, Missouri license, Missouri BNDD, Federal DEA, and any other relevant certifications.
Submit the application package at least six months before the desired start date (e.g., November1 for a May1 start, May1 for a November1 start).
