Peer Support Specialist, St. Louis

Coverage Area:
St. Louis City, St. Louis County, and surrounding rural counties (Warren, St. Charles, St. Francois, Franklin, Washington, Lincoln, Ste. Genevieve, Crawford, and Jefferson)

Position Summary:

The Peer Support Specialist acts as a role model and mentor to veteran families navigating recovery from substance use, mental illness, and homelessness. Working alongside the case management team, this role provides emotional and informational support to help veterans achieve self-sufficiency and housing stability.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Use a peer-to-peer approach to build rapport, mentor, and advocate for clients working toward recovery goals.
  • Receive case manager referrals to support clients with substance use, mental health, or other identified stability needs.
  • Connect clients with relevant VA benefits and local community resources.
  • Collaborate closely with the case management team to share ideas and support mutual client goals.
  • Assess clients to determine SSVF program eligibility.

Position Requirements:

  • BSW Peer Support Certification required (or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire).
  • Lived experience overcoming substance use, mental health challenges, and/or homelessness preferred.
  • Valid driver's license (Class E for MO residents), current auto insurance, and a reliable personal vehicle required.
  • Strong communication skills, ability to maintain healthy personal boundaries, and willingness to work flexibly within a team.
